CHICKEN POX PARTIES, I SAY "NO"

I'm not an expert on raising children.  I have two.  They are grown now.  I made plenty of mistakes and did some dumb things.  The good news is children are survivors and can pretty much overcome most raisings.

When I saw on the news that parents were having Chicken Pox Parties so their children could get the disease, I thought how silly can you be.http://abcnews.go.com/Health/story?id=6772216&page=1

Of course when my kids were young, there was no vaccine for Chicken Pox.  They eventually got them.
My kids were very sick.  It was not a party and it was not fun. I hated every minute of it and felt bad because my kids felt bad.  I was very happy to be past that ordeal when it was over.

Looking back, I am shamed by the fact that we didn't use seat belts (when they were really small, we  didn't have seat belts)  and let them sleep on their tummies (a real no no today).  I take comfort in knowing, I never took mine to a Chicken Pox Party.

OPINION OF THE DAY:  JUST SAY "NO" TO CHICKEN POX PARTIES.

EVERYONE NEEDS A PAIR OF RED COWBOY BOOTS

I love cowboy boots.  Even though I have several pair, I could use a nice pair of black ones.  I already have a red pair.  It was my first pair.  Believe it or not cowboy boots are very comfortable.  I can wear them all day and these tired old feet feel good.  I believe you need a pair.  I believe you need some red ones.

OPINION OF THE DAY:  EVERYONE NEEDS A PAIR OF RED COWBOY BOOTS.

THERE IS ALWAYS ONE MORE QUILT TO QUILT

Today I went to my quilting group.  There was lots of lively bantor.  Lots of ooh-ing and ahh-ing over the work that each one was doing. Lots of personal advise.  Lots of talk of the next quilt to make.  We shared patterns and ideas.  It was great fun.  Then I went to the local quilt shop and picked up a few fat quarters for some future project.  Before I have even finished the quilt I am working on, I'm thinking and planning for the next one, or two.

OPINION OF THE DAY:  THERE IS ALWAYS ONE MORE QUILT TO QUILT,  (or), AS LONG AS WE HAVE A PASSION, WE WILL NEVER BE BORED.  FIND YOUR PASSION.

MY OPINION ON BBQ AND POTATO SALAD

Last night I went to a school play and for an added fund raiser they had catered BBQ. The BBQ was excellent. Someone knew just what they were doing when they prepared and cooked the brisket
.
But, let me say this. The sides were awful. The slaw and the potato salad were some kinda prepared ready to serve concoction. Why would anyone that goes to the trouble of making a fine brisket not go the expected extra trouble to fix a good potato salad or slaw? This just does not make sense to me.

If you are interested I have a good potato salad recipe:

AUNT CLARA’S FAMOUS POTATO SALAD

2 Cups sweet pickles (chopped)

1 Cup chopped onion

4 hard boiled eggs

5 extra large baked potatoes (7-8 cups when cubed)

4-6 Tbs Miracle Whip

Mix everything together except the eggs. Slice eggs. Fold in the eggs.

Salt and pepper to taste.

OPINION OF THE DAY:  ANYTHING WORTH DOING IS WORTH DOING RIGHT.    My potato salad is just rah-iah-ght! (Of course ya gotta love onions)

When I think back to my early childhood, I remember how we loved to be with our cousins.  We were very close and would pick up our play were we left it when we last saw each other.

One of our common loves was Maw Hooper our dear grandmother.  She loved us and we loved her. Her influence on our lives still manifests itself in our lives today.  We have this bond of  "Maw Love" that keeps us together no matter if we don't get to see each other very often.

The men in our family call themselves "Maw Men."  I believe all the women are "Maw Women."

Opinion of the day: As Maw would say, "I love everyone of my family, no matter what."

You might ask, "Why is everyone entitled to Aunt Clara's Opinion?"  The answer is because she has an opinion and it's a good one.  You don't have to agree with me.  That's perfectly "OK."  Just know that I do have one and will likely share it with you.  If you want to ask my opinion, go ahead, I'll give it to you.  I may sometimes agree with you.  We'll agree to agree or disagree.

Opinion of the day: A good way to start the day is to say, "Good morning LORD."
